Bio

Sam Borrello (aka BPad) is a producer and guitarist currently based in Los Angeles, California. Having moved around considerably growing up--including stops in Burlington, Vermont and Philadelphia---his music is largely inspired by the places he’s lived and traveled. Sam’s sound is colorful and genre defying as it blends elements of Hip Hop, Jazz, Rock and Electronic into one cohesive experience.

Sam began his formal training studying jazz with virtuoso guitarist and educator Paul Asbell. In 2009 he moved to Philadelphia to attend The University of the Arts, deepening his knowledge of music history and improvisation. Sam is grateful to have studied with incredible guitarists and educators Kevin Hanson and Matt Davis. While at UArts, Sam joined a Jazz/Funk/HipHop group known as ILL Doots, this became the driving musical force in his life for the next 10years. Throughout his time with ILL Doots the group put out 3 full length albums (along with multiple singles, mixtapes and ep’s) toured nationally four times and expanded their efforts to include music education, theater and activism especially among the youth.

Sam graduated from UArts in 2013 obtaining a BM in Jazz Performance. He continued to work in Philadelphia for 9 years performing regularly in small group jazz settings and collaborating with prominent artists in the area including: Zeek Burse, Khemist, Aliah Sheffield and Anwar Marshall.

Alongside his instrumental studies Sam also worked as a Hip Hop/R&B producer. He released multiple beattapes under the moniker BPad as well as landing two placements for underground Hip Hop legend Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw Records). Sam’s musical knowledge and growth owes a large debt to the city of Philadelphia. Philly has some of the most incredible artists and musicians in the world and Sam is very fortunate to have lived and worked there doing what he loves.

In 2018 Sam left Philadelphia to attend a one-year graduate program at Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain. This culminated in the release of his first full length album ‘Light Shift.’ In 2019 Sam received a MA in Music Production, Technology and Innovation from Berklee.

Sam now lives in California and continues to work as a producer, mix-engineer, guitarist and educator. He recently released a new album entitled ‘Connections’ featuring various artists he has worked with over the years. He is currently working on projects with: ‘The Pastor Jul and Us. His latest single ‘Pasadena Sun’ can be heard everywhere now!
